ELEMENTAL LANDSCAPES

Is about landscapes seen and felt. A view through a small window to an immense land.

Although born in Uruguay I have grown up in the south east of Australia and most of these construction paintings are based on my memories of different places in this region. Some studied for days. Others for just fleeting moments. What I wanted to depict were the indelible images that have stayed with me over the years. To amble with both multicultural and Aboriginal cultures in mind, amid the fires, drought, and the richness of the land that is inextricably linked to our lives and our identity that is constantly being revised.

My aim was to make a composite of symbols, scenes and textures as well as topographical components with an emotional response to an active and symbolic environment that can at times isolate, as well as invigorate.

I hope these works portray the spiritual affinity I feel towards this wide brown land...
